Many of you are dissapointed with the new version of Skype 4.2.0.155 and Skype 4.2.0.158 also, it has new feature which really slows the work, but most annoying is the fact that you can't remove Skype from a taskbar when it is minimized to system tray. This is the solution i have found recently:
- quit Skype,
- right click on Skype icon on your desktop and click properties,
- in the Compatibility tab check and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3),
- Click OK, and start Skype.

Another option is to rollback to Skype 4.1.0.179, which is my personal choice, because 4.2 is a real bug.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and it worked smoothly here. Did you quit Skype before making changes in the properties of the shortcut?
Download Skype 4.1 from the link in the post and downgrade – that’s the best solution.

I love current Skype behaviour. I have Skype pinned to taskbar and like the fact that when i press close or minimize it stays on taskbar. I only hate tray icon, it should go away on Windows 7.

Thank you for that tip, it worked perfectly for me. I think this behavior of Skype is quite annoying. There’s a difference between minimizing and closing. Therefore we have two different buttons in the title bar…
